Group Tours & Travel Tasmania: Local Public Transport Options

There are several options that can be utilised for people wishing to take local Hobart City transport on their sightseeing tours or own planned itineraries. For example, you can take public transport directly to MONA if you do not want to catch their transport options. There several Metro (public buses) that travel the city and most taxi runs are relative short. This can make you sightseeing tour around Hobart only quite feasible if you are on a budget.

Most of the major attractions in Hobart that are well known are actually very close to the city of Hobart itself, but you do need to use local transport to get to these. A guide to some of the local attractions is:

Hobart to Mt Wellington (our most iconic city destination attraction) - 27 min via car (17.2 km)

Hobart to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary (where the Tasmanian Devil is) - 30 min via car (29.0 km)

Hobart to MONA (our little slice of the bizarre) - 18 min via car (11.5 km)

Hobart Richmond Village (a great afternoon tour stop) - 26 min via car (26.7 km)

Hobart Port Taxis Available: A Taxi rank is located immediately outside the Macquarie Wharf No. 2 Cruise Terminal with an associated taxi feeder rank located outside the Port Control Tower. Good for in city transport. This mode can become expensive if you are wanting to travel outside the city any more than 10 -15 minutes.

Hobart Port Minibus or Coach Hire: Cruise Ship Excursions Tours has options available for small groups up to 20 people or large groups up to 57 people to transport at very competitive rates in budget or luxury coaches for any cruise ship passengers needing or requiring transport or transfers around Hobart & Surrounds. Please contact us directly for a quote or tour ideas if required on +61 0497 551 527

Hobart Port On Foot: Hobart is a great place to walk around, with many of the well known attractions being within walking distance of the Hobart Cruise Terminal.

These include Battery Point, Salamanca Market (Saturdays Only) & Salamanca Heritage Locations, Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery, Maritime Museum, North Hobart Food & Drink Precinct & Wrest Point Casino for example. For other well know attractions, you will have to organise transport or book a local shore excursion independent tour.

Group Tours & Travel Tasmania: Things to consider before Travelling

Just some of the things that you may like to consider on your Tasmanian sightseeing tours and travel before departing. Just in case you didn’t think of it because you are so busy wanting to get into the sightseeing tour experience.

Good Soled & Enclosed Shoes: Tasmania has a number of nature elements to its sightseeing tours where you will need or should have a good pair of walking shoes that help support your feet as they often traverse rocky or uneven ground. There are several shops in Tasmania’s major cities that can assist you with a purchase if you haven’t brought your own pair already.

Scarf or Wolen Beanie: Tasmania has some of the most unpredictable weather in Australia and it literally can be sunny one minute and then wet and raining the next minute. So we recommend that you have a good scarf to cut the wind chill factor and a beanie to keep those ears nice and warm. Especially if you are planning to get further out into the countryside or Mt Wellington or Cradle Mountain. This will help to make your sightseeing tours a pleasant experience and not one where you just want to get out of the cold.
